I used to think it was about the money for a long time. Over the course of the three years, which, when you’re 70 years old, isn’t all that much, that I’ve been writing at Medium, I’ve gone from earning loads of money in a month of $31.01 in September 2023 to pretty much zilch. With the new system, you’ve got to accumulate $10 before Medium will cut a check. This was never a whole lot, but it was a sort of an acknowledgement that you have use as a writer.
Maybe I should have listened to my father, who was a good
one to say there would never be any money in it.
In any case, I have persevered. Right now, I feel
comfortable thinking about books. You’re in the same position, I think, that
you are writing for Medium, or any other platform, where attracting an audience
is key.
I certainly can’t say my good looks are any help. At 70, my
eyebrows and nose hairs have revolted and are, at times, revolting. This is the
era in life where you want to pay attention to them and to the wild hairs that
can grow quite long on your chin or your cheeks.
Here’s my idea. If you concentrate too much on something,
nothing happens. But the minute you look away, the bus comes. In the law of
manifestation, you do want to concentrate on the thing that you want in life.
The idea then is that the universe nods its head, and you suddenly begin to
notice opportunities for you to get whatever it is that you want. That’s the idea.
It is not a gift. You have to work for it.
Now, there might very well be a different sense of energy
that opens up where you are absolutely irresistible and all the handsome boys
will flock to you, but I haven’t seen it happen too much. It does happen, but
not all the time. Sometimes, you’re just asking for the wrong thing, like if
you were impoverished and you wanted to be rich. Maybe what you’d get is a roof
over your head and food to put on the table, rather than dripping in jewels. It’s
a theory.
So, I’m trying to apply the same thing to being a published
writer. I am, sort of, already. The money I thought would be associated with being a published writer just isn’t there. We’re doing okay. Could be
better, but maybe doing better financially would take the edge off of my
appetite to write. I hadn’t thought of that. I hope that doesn’t happen.
I am learning how to get back on my writing horse every day,
without fail. Turns out I am not at a loss for ideas. That, thankfully, I am
blessed with. Also, I tend to worry things to death. Funny to say about a
psychic channel who talks to dead people. I also won’t say I’m kidding. I’ve
been a channel since 1993. It is who I am.
Perhaps, we might have a snog with everybody?
Okay, but what is a snog? I thought it was having sex.
Look it up.
Well, it’s not sex, but it is kissing amorously.
Pucker up.
Oh, you’re funny this morning. I need to explain to everybody
that when I channel in writing, I will put Spirit’s contributions in a bold
italic font. This might help to ease any confusion, like why in the world would
I say snogging with Spirit is anything that belongs in the light of day.
Uptight, are you?
You sound like Yoda now.
If we might?
Sure. I’ll be quiet.
Now, then, this is Seth. You would not normally, if
you read the transcriptions of channeling sessions with Jane Roberts and her
husband Robert, realize that also my ‘quirky’ sense of humor is operating in
full swing. I have somewhat dummied down the tone of my channeling. This is
because, in part, my channel, Pauline, is not necessarily interested in the
erudite manner in which I communicated some 60 years ago, but also, she is a
different person.
I could speak Egyptian to you and still be Seth. The
idea that only one person can channel one Spirit Guide is a fallacy. It is not
quite believable because we tend to sound different from one person to another,
and that is how it should be. As another personage in Spirit explained to
Pauline years ago, saying that the channels were the brushes and Spirit was the
paint pot.
Yes, I always liked that one.
Yes, it does get the point across succinctly.
You realize there is going to be a massive spell check here.
My eyes are closed, and I normally don’t type perfectly.
It is of no moment. Shall I proceed?
Yes, I’ll step back.
As a person refines their approach to meditation that
takes place slowly and across many years, so too is the skill of a channel
honed. Sometimes, a humorous anecdote is enough to rally Pauline, our channel,
from a slumped-over state which she assumes, with her eyes closed so that she
is not distracted by anything outside of her immediate environment, but so,
too, does she prefer the distraction of her mind reminding her to order
oakmeal.
Shit. Why did you do that? Now, I need to stop for a minute…Sorry
about that.
No problem.
I noticed a bunch of misspelled words, like I typed oatmeal
as oakmeal.
Not to worry about that. They are easily addressed. Think
of this distraction just as you did when your husband was making all that noise
in the bedroom not 20 minutes ago. You were afraid to look until he called you
to see that he’d broken a bookcase. And you fixed it.
Yes, I had to puzzle it out. I didn’t put it together in the
first place, so I needed to puzzle it out.
And, he assisted you in finding the last shelf support
that had fallen on the floor. You said to him, to emphasize the point that you
had been working on an article, “Now, this is what a good writer I am. I can go
and pick up my story again without trouble.”
Yes, I did.
And he looked sheepish.
Well, I think that’s a man thing. He does it all the time. I’m
trying to write, and he just butts in to scare the crap out of me because I’m concentrating
and announces something that didn’t need announcing.
Pauline, you are his helpmate.
Well, yes. Married 49 years, I’d say so. It’s just that, why
should I respect his involvement with stuff if he can’t respect mine?
I believe you need to think that over, Dear.
Okay, I’m exhausted. Do you still have something you want to
talk about?
No, I’m done here. Let me ask you a question, though.
Sure.
Does practicing “channeling” for you help you to
become a better channel?
I think so. Especially if we have a conversation about
something. I’m not going so deep that I get lost in the process, and, come to
think of it, it is a different sort of involvement and enjoyment than just
handing the pen over to you.
Tell your readers about your new project.
On my website TalkingtoSpirit.com, there is a section on the
main page where Seth, or whoever wants to talk in Spirit, has been talking
about some helpful things for people to consider. It switches out every day. I
used to have it on an older version of the website here
on the Internet Archives, where you could even dance around a grid and take
your pick of any of the 365 different pieces of channeling. Those entries eventually were published in a book that you can still buy. However, the font is small. It's a lot easier for me to do that type of channeling now than it was in 2013.
However, I consider this section of the website to be very important and
starting cold, as I normally do when I’m talking to Seth, makes me nervous. I
typically don’t like surprises, and that includes the channeling we do for the Spirit
Speaks – Daily Channeling section of the website. I think it was August 20,
2025, when I first started putting the stuff there. It’s all automated with a JavaScript
file, thanks to ChatGPT’s help, and I have to be careful how I add new bits to
it. One wrong space, or a bit of punctuation, and I have to frog out what I’ve
just put in and redo it.
You might explain what frog means.
It means to rip out stitches when you are knitting or
crocheting. I try to do these bunches of, I want to call them bon mots, little
tidbits of Spiritual advice or observations in groups rather than one at a
time. The first time I got five done. Yesterday, I did eleven. So, as to eliminate
the element of surprise, I have another document that I call Conversations for
Daily Channeling. This never gets into a position to be published. It is my own
area to work out the kinks. It is my way of sinking into an appropriate mental
state where I am pretty much comfortable with whatever Seth wants to talk
about. It eases me into a subject. I don’t force it. I allow the channeling to
happen. It is long-form channeling where I do not interrupt or participate in
the conversation. It helps me.
So, is that good?
I would say that is excellent. People don’t realize how much
it helps me to warm up. Yes, you can go in cold, but there is more to the
experience when we “practice” so to speak. Hey, thanks. This one went overlong.
It’s at four pages now.
Do you wish to edit?
No, I don’t think much, other than obvious misspellings like
oakmeal. I’m good with it. Are you?
Yes, we are peachy keen.
Hey, thanks. I enjoyed it. It helps me to be a better
channel when I actually channel for you.
Our aim is to please. Blessings to those reading this.
Yes, and thanks from me too. I’ll put a list of places where
you can find me on the internet if you are interested.
