Be loud. Be playful. Just be yourself for a minute. No
matter how old you are, sometimes it’s nice just to let your hair down and play
for a little bit.
Also, it’s beneficial to start out your day on the right
foot. I try to do that with what I call my Do-Good File. The “rule” is that I
try to write in it every day before much of the day has gone by. The purpose of
the document is to be a motivation for myself.
You’re not like vegetables in the garden waiting for rain
that may or may not come on a regular basis. Be your own sprinkler system.
I’m a writer, so I use my words. But if you were a gardener,
maybe you could spend ten minutes in your garden every day. Not the whole
garden, just what you can do for ten minutes. Then, if you see something that’s
going to take longer, you can say to yourself, “I’ll come back after lunch to
do some more.” It’s like cleaning. There’s always something you can clean.
Or, if you were an artist. Perhaps you could make a habit of
drawing something in a small sketchbook every day. Like you could do a study of
hands or feet. Just to do them. Or a small zentangle or a doodle. Spend all ten
minutes doing that.
I have a friend who reads scripture every morning before the
family gets up. You could find a book with short inspirational things for you
to read. Or you could write your own. Make it a project. Make a rule that they
are short, under 50 words, and just see what happens. For fun. Your project.
Your rules. Eventually, when you’ve got enough, collect them into a book. Just
for fun.
Just something for ten minutes a day that you could spend
that will enable you to just start your day off on a good footing.
Remember that old lesson: It’s not anyone’s responsibility
to make you happy. That’s something you need to do yourself. So, take a small
step and do that tomorrow morning.
Thanks for reading. Come back for more. I publish here twice a week.
