Speaking of God

Note: My Spirit Guide, Seth, also speaks in this piece. I put his stuff in a bold italic font.

What drives you to do what you do? Why exactly do you go to work? I would think a major motivating factor would be that you need to pay bills. There’s rent or a mortgage, there’s food, there’s gas for your car, there’s health insurance. I mean, all of that costs money. Then, if you’re like me, you buy books. Mostly, these days I get my books on my Kindle. It’s better for my eyes. Also, if you go to Amazon and ask for deals on books, they will give you a lot to look at. Or you could ask for free books.

I’m retired. We get a pension, which helps, though it is nowhere near what I used to bring in when I had a full-time job. Mostly, as older people, you do without, and having been poor several times in my life, I know what that’s like. You get used to it, and you deal with it.

Besides, isn’t there more to life than working all the time? It took me many years to figure that one out. Part of it was finally coming to the realization that I liked my job. However, now that I’m not working I get to do something that I have longed dreamed about. I get to write. About what? About anything. I am my own boss these days, and I get to write about what I like to write about.

One thing I like to write about is spirituality. There is no single right way to be on a spiritual quest. You can pretty much choose your own direction. Sure, there is all sorts of help out there from other people who have been on their own spiritual journeys. Follow your nose, I suppose, is some of the best advice you can get.

Mine started when I wondered if God was even there. I mean, I’d been brought up to know that he was. And he will always be a he to me, though I know many people like to think of God as a she.

I remember seeing a bumper sticker that absolutely delighted me. It said, “God is coming back and boy, is she pissed.” So God is whoever you picture. My version was an older guy with long white hair and a beard, sitting on clouds with angels flitting off in the distance. Which is fine. Even with my own Spirit Guide, I still sometimes roll my eyes and look up at the ceiling or to one of the corners in the room. Old habits are hard to break.

In 1993, I eventually started speaking to my Spirit Guide, Seth. I asked him if God was real. He said yes. So, if you want to speak on spiritual authority, you could take Seth’s word for it. Though I would much prefer you decide this on your own.

Some things I have found out. God is approachable. You can talk to God. God won’t help you out of all of your problems because that takes away the advantage you have of learning how to fix things yourself. God doesn’t talk to me much. Though, maybe he does, and I just haven’t figured out how to listen. That is a very distinct possibility. However, I do talk with my Spirit Guide, Seth. All the time. In fact, we could talk here. What do you think?

I think that is a fine idea.

Thanks.

For what? We haven’t really started talking yet.

Would you tell me if a robber was at the door?

Your cats would probably notify you of that. Plus you’d hear breaking in noises from the front of the house.

Well, that’s probably right.

Are you dissatisfied?

No. It’s just sort of logical.

And your question was not?

You’ve got a point. What about if I had some sort of terminal illness? Would you tell me?

Probably not. You’re only here for as long as you are here. Best not to put off until tomorrow that which you want to do today.

So, I’m writing.

Yes, that’s a good thing. What about talking to God?

Well, that’s what this article is about. Do you talk to God?

Yes, I do. We have quarterly meetings.

….Seth?

Yes?

Was that you being funny?

No, not at all. You can talk to God any old time you want to. In fact, every time you say, “God help me.” God is listening.

Really?

Yes, really. Who do you think said, “What?” when you called out “Jesus” recently?

I thought it might be you.

And, yet, you also in a tiny part of you thought it might well be Jesus. Right?

Yes. It was sort of funny.

If you say so.

No, I mean folks from Heaven so close you could have a conversation with them.

Isn’t that what you do all the time?

Well, anyway, that’s what I wanted to talk about. Just that folks can speak to their higher spirit, their inner self, or to God, or even to you, Seth.

Sounds like a plan. And, with that, I bid you adieu.
