A Good Deed

Sometimes, the good deed that you do, the generosity that you offer to another person, might be as simple as holding a door open for them. It might be smiling at a cashier and asking how their day is going. It might be letting someone with ten items in their cart go ahead of you in line.

These are small things. They don’t cost you a thing. But they can mean a lot to the other person.

Sometimes, when somebody would express their thanks, I’d just ask them to pay it forward sometime. Nobody ever asked me what pay it forward meant. That small kindness, paid forward ten times, would mean that your actions had touched the day of somebody you had never met, had never laid eyes on.

Can you imagine?

It’s an energy that keeps going, because what if each of those people, in paying forward a small kindness, did the same thing with ten more people? Exponentially, this is like your brain exploding. You did that? Yes, you did. You created what might in three weeks' time be a tsunami of kindness.

Did you want that to happen? Maybe you did, and maybe you didn’t.

What you did was exercise your free choice and do something good. It was a small thing, but it meant a lot.

My advice? Keep doing it. It doesn’t have to be every day. Just every once in a while. Did it cost anything to do? No.

Kindness given does not have to cost anything. Kindness received is priceless.
