Here is something I haven't spent a lot of time on, but it’s
actually fascinating. It started when I had a chili recipe cookbook. I acquired
it as a young adult, and it was full of photographs. I don’t know if I still
have it (note to self: go look), but it occurred to me after I began channeling
and talking to dead guys that I might be able to connect with the people in old photographs. These were pictures from the 1800s into the early 1900s of
cowhands eating and making chili.
I will report to you that you can. Granted, all this took
place in my early years of psychic channeling.
Okay, I looked for it and no longer have it in my
collection. 1979 famous chili recipes from the Marlboro County Camping Chuck
Wagon Cookbook. If you want to Google it, you’ll see the types of photographs I’m
talking about: Chuck Wagons, the cooks who prepared the chili, the cowhands
who ate it, and the horses and cows in their lives. There are a few copies
available online in the $30–$40 range.
When someone comes to me asking for a psychic reading, I’m going to ask whether they want to make contact with someone who has passed on or if they’re just looking for a generalized psychic reading. Granted, whoever
in Spirit begins to talk is going to talk about what is on their agenda, not my
customer’s, so, at times, there is generally a surprise.
The reason is that every psychic on the face of the Earth is
as different from each other as people are different from each other. Same
thing with preachers. You’ve got the ones who are fire and brimstone to the
ones who encourage you to do your own self-introspection, talk to God (or
whomever), and make up your own mind.
And, you know what? It’s all true. If that’s what you
believe, it is true. If that is your reality, then that is your reality.
You are the only one who can change your reality. It’s best
to have somebody give you a glimpse into their own reality for you to realize
you’d like to be in that pasture rather than your own. The grass is always
greener on the other side. Or, as Erma Bombeck used to say, “the grass is
always greener over the septic tank.”
I just deleted a good 500 words about a person I did a
psychic reading for who wasn’t happy with what she heard. I’ll write a
different story about that sometime. My job is to learn not to let myself be
bothered by that. In fact, I’ve got someone who is trying to contact me now who
wants to compare my psychic insights with a psychic his sister went to. It’s
going to be interesting when it happens. A hint? It doesn’t matter if what each
psychic says doesn’t jibe with the other. Also, something I can get into in
another article. Too much about that for just one piece. Especially when this
article started up as something totally different.
So, the word, I believe, is psychometry. It’s when you hold
an object in your hand that belongs to either the person sitting in front of
you or to someone who meant a lot to them. I actually did this once in a
lecture given by James Praagh. He had each person in the audience turn around
to the person sitting directly behind them. The premise was that you didn’t
know each other. So, if those conditions were met, then you exchanged a personal
object with the other person. We all did our keys. I sensed Writer –
Chef. Turns out I was right. The lady confirmed it. Then, she guessed writer
for me, which was also right. I can’t remember if she felt psychic happen, but
that’s okay. I do remember she said writer. So, we didn’t know each other, and after the experiment was over, there was an awful lot of excited chatter. That’s
a psychic reading using a process called psychometry.
Now, as a psychic, you can get a lot more than that. Sitting
in an audience of a bunch of people is not conducive to the calm you need, or
at least I need, to be able to be open and calm with Spirit. But I’d imagine
the “famous” psychics out there have learned to calm themselves enough to make the process go smoothly. I can remember
seeing Theresa Caputo and Tyler Henry doing the aimless scribbling in their
notebooks, occasionally coming up with a word or two that might be important to
the reading. That’s not the entire psychic reading. That is the tennis shoes
you put on to go running. It eases you into the moment. It paves the way for a
smooth ride. For instance, just now I got a baseball reference. There was a
batter in a baseball game, assuming the stance they take as they wait for the
pitcher to let loose. Now, why did that show up as I’m writing this article? I
have no idea, unless, and we can stretch this as far as you want, somebody
someday is going to be reading this story and have somebody near and dear to
their hearts who has passed on, they were just thinking about. I can only know
it would work if baseball were the link between what I saw and who they are mourning.
It's a message. Also, if butterflies are your “signal”, your
mother is nearby, maybe ten minutes from now, you see some. Then, tomorrow, you
see some more. Then, the next day, some more. You start thinking, “How weird is
this?” It’s not weird. It’s your mother saying hi. Anybody else might say it
was a coincidence, but ten days in a row and it’s not even spring? You know how
you acknowledge a message like that? You just silently think, “Thank you” to
your mother. You can say other stuff too, and that’s between you and whoever
you are missing. You don’t have to say this stuff out loud. You also don’t have
to be in a spiritual place like a church or even a graveyard. Doing the laundry
or the dishes is fine. Just knowing your mother is happy, is safe, and is
enjoying life on the other side is all you need to know. By the way, everybody
is okay when they die. If there is any confusion, it passes quickly. Dead people
don’t want us to do anything. So, you don’t need to ask about that. You grieve
because they didn’t get to see you celebrate your marriage or the birth of
your children? They can see that stuff, and they are always there whether you realize it or not.
I asked my own mother after she passed how it was she could
be with me and with my brothers and sister who were scattered across the US at
the same time. She just said she could. I’ve come to understand that I’m not
pulling Spirit away from something more important to talk to me.
I don’t understand it all now, but I’m willing to imagine.
Anyway, back to the old photographs. Yes, you can contact
those folks you see in paintings and in photographs from long ago or far away.
I can’t tell you how it happens. It just does.
I wasn’t able to find the exact photo I was looking for, but
I did find a photo at Picryl that did the job. A couple of impressions as I
looked at it. Somebody said, “Cold”. Another person in the photo said something
about aching, which I guess, if you were sitting around on rocks eating your
dinner after having been riding your horse all day, would be understandable. To
practice, you go with what you hear in your head. You won’t hear it out loud in
the room. It will be a thought. Write it down, no matter how unlikely, date it,
and save the photograph. And keep doing it. That’s how you get good at reading
old photographs.
