Absolutely True

I read a comment just now where the person said that it was absolutely true. They were speaking in regard to a story in a published book. I haven’t read the book, so I’m not going to comment on that here. What struck me, though, were those words that are still ringing for me: Absolutely true.

The first question I want to ask is, “Who cares?”

Well, somebody cared. The person who wrote the comment cares. Maybe they are young enough to think that if something is absolutely true, it must be good.

I’ve lived long enough to know there are degrees of truth in everything we experience.

Take politicians. Is it truth or is it expediency?

Take mothers. Not being one in my lifetime, I can only comment on this because I was a child. Where did the starving children in India or China come from when you didn’t finish all the food on your plate? Did your mother know them? It sounded like she did. Don’t you remember her saying that? She put her hands on her hips as she gave you the stony glare that won’t stop. Was that absolutely true? I think it would have been more effective if she’d said there were children living in your own town who didn’t get a lot to eat.

In my own life, I learned how to be a psychic. I talk to dead people now. I also talk to Spirit. I’m not lying. That is absolutely true. Honest. The only way I can prove it to you is if you were to make the effort to go read the other stuff I’ve written. Or we could take a few minutes to talk to Spirit right now.

Is the cat black?

Well, Stanley is. I mean, I’m writing a story right now about something being absolutely true. As a rule, people sort of stand back and distance themselves from me when I say, “I talk to dead people.”

Then, why do you?

It jolts them.

Is that what you want to do?

No, not as much as I would like people to be accepting of others, themselves included. I want to spread the word about being childlike in wonder. We hit ourselves with sticks and stones all the time. People can be nice to themselves, and then, because they know how it feels, they can be nice to other people.

Well, that is laudable.

I’m not sure how to spell that.

It doesn’t matter. I’m sure your spell checker will have some suggestions.

Would you like to introduce me?

Oh, I’m sorry. Yes, this is Seth. He is my Spirit Guide. I met him in 1993, so it’s been a few years, writing this piece now in the Spring of 2026. He is invisible, although I can “see” him in my mind. Everybody can do that. You sort of know what a sandwich is going to look like before you make it. That picture is in your head. Psychic pictures are a little different. Sometimes I have to stop what I am doing to really see something. Much of the time, there is a bit of movement with a psychic vision. For me, psychic visions don’t last longer than two or three seconds. I can go back to them, but the steadiness of my gaze isn’t there.

You can change that, you know.

Really?

Yes, pick up your pencil again and begin a small practice of drawing something every day. If it is the same apple, which would be good for a first study, then, it might take you a few days. It is in the steadiness of the activity that you can move past the novelty and dive into the middle of discovery.

I could do the same thing with crochet, too.

Yes, seeing as that would dovetail in with the crochet website you have just created.

Thanks for reading. I put Seth’s part in a bold italic to separate it from what I write. It was odd, in the beginning, to figure out who was saying what, because for a lot of it in the beginning, there was a really disconcerting feeling of me thinking what he said. I had to grow accustomed to the two streams of thought. You get used to it. You can get used to anything.
