What Being a Psychic is Like

I am a psychic. I wasn’t always a psychic, and yet, in the years since I learned what to do, to turn off my noise and listen to things that weren’t there, I’ve also come to the conclusion that I was psychic from the beginning.

I’m not special. I’m no different from you. I am convinced that you are psychic, too.

The thing is, once I broke through that invisible barrier I had erected, I realized that psychic things had been going on all around me ever since I could remember.

And, yet, when it all appeared in my life as a grown-up person of 35 years old, it was the right time for me.

Actually, I hadn’t grown up by then, but I didn’t know that. Now? At 70 years old? I’ve still got a lot to learn. But something I do know, without a doubt, is that Spirit is with you. By your side.

To get to the point where you realize this, too?

Well, you’ve got to pretend a little. You’ve got to play like you were still a child.

I can only tell you how Spirit is with me. I can’t tell you how Spirit will be with you.

Mary once told me that we were like the paint, and the Folk in Spirit were like the brushes. That’s how you get psychics telling you different things. For instance, one psychic is very much into money. It is something they think about. It is something that is important to them. Hey, you need to put bread on the table, and short of being a farmer and grinding your own flour, well, you have to buy it. So, a person like that can tell you that you might have money problems on the horizon.

On the other hand, you get a psychic who is more into life lessons can see a time ahead of you when there will be changes for you, where you are going to be able to move mountains of Karmic debt and answer the challenges you will face as you lose one job and must find another one.

Different psychics. Same stuff. Different messages.

Both are right.

You know how you can have a favorite pen to write with? I need a smooth-flowing pen with a fine point that won’t smudge, yet is dark and has ink that doesn’t fade over time. I also need pencils that don’t scratch. I don’t know what it is about pens and pencils that scratch and drag on paper, but it drives me up the wall.

Psychics will eventually settle on whatever tools of divination work best for them. So, you could go to a psychic who is more comfortable using the Tarot, or another who likes to use the Runes. Essentially, you don’t need anything, but hey, it’s showbiz. I won’t argue with anybody who feels the need to use a tool of divination to help guide them.

One that is fun to do is called bibliomancy. Typically, you’d use a Bible, but really, any book would do it. You just need to have a connection to the book. Somehow. What that connection is will be yours and yours alone. It might be a diary or a journal that came from a relative. You could go to a second-hand bookshop and find an old book. A cartographer’s book with notes all up and down the margin. Something that the original owner imprinted upon the book. Use that. Ask the question, open the book at random, and point. You’ve got your answer.

Or make your own. Something that might mean something to you. Okay, let me think about this. If I were to make a book like this, I’d want a book or a piece of paper where I can’t tell, in this section, that I'll have written about happiness, or in that section about money. It’s got to be something that I’m not going to unconsciously select.

Oh, you know what would work? Cards. And you shuffle them, just like the Tarot. If you are inclined toward drawing or painting, you could do that too. Something to think about. Although a book might work too.

Anyway, you connect with Source or with Spirit, however you do that (remember everybody is different), and you ask a question. If you’ve got a client, well, it would be their question. Practice on yourself first. That’s how you learn.

Oh, here’s an idea you could use for yourself. Have a number of cards and put an idea or just a word on each one: Happiness, Creativity, Grief, Thoughtfulness, Sensitivity, Love, or whatever you want. Pick a card for yourself with your eyes closed, and that is your thought to begin your day. Oh, prayer could be in the group, too. You can certainly buy these decks, or just make your own. Who knows? It might turn into a nice side job for you.

If you want to get really simple about using cards as divination, you could limit the cards to Yes and No. Put in a Maybe if that feels right.

The best information you can come up with is where you don’t have an axe to grind. It’s called wishful channeling when you allow your own personal attitudes to wind their way into your reading. It’s why I don’t answer questions about food. Unless it’s to get some advice on something I want to make. If you haven’t guessed by now, I am fat.

Also, when you are upset about something, it can distort your psychological interpretation, which is why I require any student I teach to promise themselves and the universe that they will always pay special attention to their own mental well-being.

So, just some thoughts about being psychic. Thanks for reading. You can find me in other places on the internet. I put the links below.
